Most are native Japanese who spent the early part of their career working at McKinsey and other top tier consulting firms before gaining practical hands-on experience running parts of or entire businesses. Hideo has over 35 years of experience in consulting and management in a variety of industries including IT, consumer products, beverages and retail in Japan. He began his management consulting career at McKinsey & Co. followed by senior roles at PepsiCo, Walt Disney and IBM. He has gained extensive experience in on-the-ground operations in Japan. His pragmatic strategic recommendations have resulted in a significant and sustainable business improvements to productivity and profitability. Mr. Aono earned an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technologies (MIT) Sloan School of Management and a B.E. and M.E. in Production Engineering from Waseda University.


Cory’s Japan experience spans 4 decades, including President & Representative Director of Nihon USANA KK where he doubled sales in less than 2 years and achieved profitability for the 1st time in the subsidiary’s history. At USANA, he conducted virtually all business in Japanese, leading 30 employees and thousands of independent sales reps. Earlier in his career, he served the Japanese subsidiaries of major multinationals as a consultant for McKinsey and Zitan Partners. He has extensive healthcare industry experience, including co-President and co-Chief Operating Officer of Covenant Care which he helped lead to from $2 million to $110 million in revenues and to 3,000 employees in 2 ½ years. He received an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School and a BS with honors from Brigham Young University.


Kimi is a leading Silicon Valley business and technology innovator with expertise in evaluating new technology, identifying promising early stage companies, and promoting US-Japanese joint ventures. As a corporate venture capital manager, he has served as an investor and mentor for numerous companies in their early stage to more mature development. In addition to Vici, he currently serves as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at mediaX, Stanford, Managing Director of Valley Breeze Consulting, LLC and Tipping Point Ventures, LLC.


Kimi’s career spans several decades in senior-level management with major Japanese corporations and arranging Japanese market entry for many Silicon Valley startups.  As strategic planning manager for Fuji Xerox in Japan, the most successful joint US-Japanese enterprise to date, he was a catalyst in bringing technology to market and bridging American and Japanese business cultures. Over the past 20 years based in Silicon Valley, he has been President and CEO of two Japanese subsidiaries, founded a research center (FXPAL), and conducted technology transfer practice by leveraging his extensive networks in the US and Japan, which include communities among research universities as Stanford and UC Berkeley, federally-funded laboratories, and venture capital firms. He has managed a corporate venture fund and conventional venture funds as well as led cross-border projects, including a very successful partnership between Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Omron Corporation. Since 2011, he has been consulting Nissan’s Silicon Valley research center.


Bob was born and raised in Japan, hence a native Japanese speaker. He has extensive on-the-ground experience working in Japan. Bob worked for 12 years at Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. and affiliates in Tokyo, Osaka, San Diego and New York where he became the highest ranking non-Japanese of all 5,500 of Sanyo North America Corporation. At Sanyo, he worked in export/import sales, planning, financial reporting, PR/IR, venture investment, general administration and a variety of operating roles. Later in his career, he was the Director of the State of Washington Japan Office, managing a six-person specialist team in housing, tourism, high tech, agricultural products, government relations, and inbound investment. Bob was also an EVP and COO of an Internet travel business in Tokyo as well as a Partner of an international consulting firm specializing in Japanese market entry for foreign multinationals and U.S. market entry for Japanese companies. Clients included the U.S. Postal Service, REI, and the State of Washington. He was also the owner of a specialty business managing very large private estates (up to $250 million in value) with supervision of dozens of maintenance, installation, landscaping, construction and private-service employees and contractors.


Paul is the former Chairman & Representative Director for Kirin-Tropicana Inc. and Vice President, PepsiCo Asia Pacific, He began his career in advertising with J. Walter Thompson Japan working on DeBeers Diamonds and IBM Asia Pacific covering 16 countries. He then moved to Hakuhodo:Lintas Advertising where he worked on Unilever and Coca-Cola’s diet brands.

Scouted by the Seagrams company in 1992, he then spent the next 16 years focused on building the Tropicana juice brand into the number one premium juice brand in Japan after launching the brand in Taiwan in the Fall of 1993. Paul has lived and worked in Japan for over 50 years and is a recognized expert in product innovation and Japan market entry. He consults for a variety of industries including beverages, IT, fashion and entertainment.


Paul has over 40 years of experience in the Asia Pacific region, principally in Japan. His career in financial services from the early 1980s has included equity capital markets, cross border M&A advisory and indexation. His clients and partners have included Japanese corporations and financial institutions, Asian stock exchanges and global investment management companies.  Paul began his career with Grieveson, Grant and Company in London, and spent 18 years in the Japan securities operations of HSBC.  He was the managing director for the London Stock Exchange’s subsidiary FTSE for ten years, managing equity index licensing and partnerships across the Asia Pacific region.  Paul has a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College and is a Registered Representative with the Japan Securities Dealers Association.  Previously he was an individual member of the London Stock Exchange.


Roger is a Partner of Odgers Berndtson’s Tokyo office and Managing Director – Business Development. He specializes in recruiting senior local executives to manage Western corporate entities. He also recruits expatriate executives for regional management positions in Asia across a broad range of industry sectors. His professional career in Japan spans 40 years. Prior to Odgers, Roger founded and was President of PENN International Associates, a Tokyo-based management consulting firm. Earlier, he was a director at KPMG Consulting, building the firm’s executive search practice in Japan and Korea. Before that, he was founder of SGM Associates K.K. in Tokyo, having begun his career in human resources consulting with international companies based in Tokyo. Roger is fluent in Japanese, with a BA degree in Asian Studies from Sophia University.


Lance has over 30 years of strategic consulting and operating experience, principally in the U.S. and Asia. His consulting clients span industries from cosmetics and consumer electronics to software and telecoms. He has been an investor, co-founder, CEO, COO and board member of several companies and has raised well over $100 million for his ventures. Lance began his career as a management consultant with seven years at McKinsey & Company in New York and Tokyo where he spent over 5 years working closely with well-known Japanese strategist Kenichi Ohmae. He earned his MBA from Harvard University Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and marketing from Boston College.
